SECEC CONGRESS 2025
DE DOELEN | ROTTERDAM
WHAT GOES INTO EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY
Event Photography can be quite overwhelming. Big Venues, A lot of guests, plenty of smaller sessions.
How do you tackle it, both as a client and event photographer?
To start off: Spend time on a pre-production meeting. The conference environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, yet there are details that must be discussed. Think about client-related topics: Deliverables and potential rights regarding images, packages, delivery time. It’s important for the client to know this. Similarly, as a client, photographer-related topics are: Event details, Insight on how to portray the conference, Must-have shots, specific moments to highlight, the logistics and branding.
All of the above establishes: Expectations and a clear outline of the project for both parties.
Another overlooked aspect that could be implemented, something we have been doing for this conference is: Location scouting.
Having dedicated time set aside with the client to tour the venue, helps you, identify the strength and potential issues when it comes to capturing images of the conference. Think about lighting, composition and such.
This allows you to bring perspective to a clients wishes. Explaining what is and/or isn’t possible. But also what is and even other creative ideas that could improve on the original ideas.
SECEC CONGRESS 2025
All of the above are elements we implemented within our project and client, GL-Events group and the SECEC Community.
Which combined with incredible images resulted in a fast, yet delicate ed result.
